How can more computing fit alongside the people who share its power and water?
Frontier is B3N's research and venture programme. It is at the agenda stage, and we are looking for collaborators.
Three workstreams
Nothing here is a finding yet. Each sets out a question and how we would answer it.
Power
Where and when can computing draw power without competing with homes and essential services?
- Output
- A siting and scheduling framework, published with its assumptions.
- Who could contribute
- Utilities, grid operators, energy developers, data centre operators.
Cooling And Water
Which cooling suits a given climate and water supply, and where can waste heat be reused?
- Output
- Energy, water and cost comparisons for named sites.
- Who could contribute
- Facility operators, engineers, water authorities, farms that use heat.
Data For Useful AI
What does it take to build and keep the data that makes AI reliable in a local context?
- Output
- Practical guidance and open test sets, tried on real systems.
- Who could contribute
- Organisations with domain data, language experts, AI researchers.
Cheap tests first
Each step costs less than the next, so ideas are tested on paper before anything is built. We plan to publish what we find, including what does not work.
1. Review
Research, operator data and interviews.
2. Analysis
Grid, climate, water and dataset analysis.
3. Comparison
Options side by side for a named site.
4. Pilots
Small and scoped, only with a real partner site.
Bring a question, a dataset or a site.
A short description and a link to relevant work is enough to start.
